California Legislature Considers Ban on Food Additives

AB418 would ban five food additives that have allegedly been linked to health concerns.  These additives are brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, Red Dye No. 3, and titanium dioxide.  The bill includes penalties of $5,000 for first violations and up to $10,000 for each subsequent violation.  The FDA allows use of these substances in food and legal challenges could follow if this bill passes.
